Dr. Harold Varmus, 2008 Friesen Prizewinner
He is a Nobel Prize-winning medical researcher, but before studying medicine, Harold Varmus earned a post-graduate degree in early English at Harvard. So it was not surprising when he quoted Beowulf in his acceptance speech. In 2008, Dr. Varmus was awarded the Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research. He tells IDEAS host Paul Kennedy what it means to be top scientific advisor for Presidents Clinton and Obama.
