2006December 2006: ![]() October 19, 2006: Dr. Foerster is a professor at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine and a specialist in hematology and oncology. In addition, for 20 years he has been the Executive Director of Research at St. Boniface General Hospital. The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to an alumnus or alumna who demonstrates outstanding professional achievement, significant service to the University of Manitoba, and significant contributions to the community and to the welfare of others. ![]() September 26, 2006: The Forum begins at 3:30pm with Master of Ceremonies Paul Kennedy, host of Ideas. Other guests include Dr. Henry G. Friesen, Dr. Alan Bernstein, President of CIHR, Dr. Paul Armstrong, President, CAHS, and Dr. Aubie Angel, President FCIHR. The Public Forum is a key element of The Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research. Regional dialogue is also an important part of the program and a visit to the University of Manitoba is planned later this year. Dr. Martin will also be honoured at several other events while he is in Ottawa. The Forum will be followed by a coffee reception in the Watercourt Foyer

A Rhodes Scholar and renowned researcher, Naylor earned his medical degree at the University of Toronto, then continued his studies at Oxford University. He returned to Toronto and joined the Faculty of Medicine in 1987. He was appointed Dean of Medicine in 1999. In 2003. following the SARS outbreak, he was named Chair of the National Advisory Committee on SARS and Public Health. He became President of the University in October 2005. Also receiving an Officer of the Order of Canada appointment is University of Toronto Professor Emeritus Mary Seeman. Dr. Seeman has earned international recognition for her work in schizophrenia, in particular for identifying gender differences in clinical symptoms, treatment and outcome. Dr. Seeman is married to FCIHR Member Dr. Philip Seeman who shares professional interests in psychiatry and pharmacology. New International Prize in Health Research Announced The 2006 FCIHR Symposium: "Addressing the Acute Shortage of Clinician Scientists in Canada" was held Thursday, May 4, 2006, in conjunction with the National Research Forum for Young Investigators in Circulatory and Respiratory Health at the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
