THE HENRY G. FRIESEN INTERNATIONAL PRIZE IN HEALTH RESEARCH
The Board of Directors confers an annual International Prize and two discretionary Awards. These recognize outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the mission and goals of FCIHR.
No Canadian in our time has been more committed to strengthening private and public sector health research investments, partnerships and business models to benefit society than Dr. Henry G. Friesen, for whom The Prize is named. His tireless commitment to scientific excellence and consensus decision-making reshaped Canadian health research and earned unprecedented international admiration and respect. This Award continues his efforts to bring the significant benefits of health research to society.
The Prize is awarded annually to an individual of international stature who best exemplifies Dr. Henry Friesen’s prescience, organizational creativity and broad impact on health research and health research policy. Click here for full details.

THE FRIENDS OF CIHR FOUNDERS’ AWARD
This Award newly introduced in September 2010 recognizes an individual of high scientific achievement who has advanced the fields of research and/or enterprise in Canadian Biomedicine.
Individuals who have been involved in the early phase of the establishment of FCIHR and prior to that, Alumni & Friends of MRC, are candidate for this recognition.
The Executive of FCIHR will advise the President on a suitable candidate.
THE AWARD
The Award includes an invitation to speak in a scientific Forum, designated as the “Founders’ Award Lecture”.
THE FRIENDS OF CIHR AWARD OF HONOUR
This Award is presented to the individual or organization whose work has made a notable contribution to health research in Canada.
The Award of Honour recognizes individuals in the lay community, organizations, or corporations who have contributed significantly to CIHR and its mandate.
The Award
The award is in the form of a scroll suitable for framing and is presented during an appropriate event on the FCIHR calendar. This may be a dinner, annual meeting, scientific award ceremony, or other similar event, and may be a public occasion.

Nomination
Nominations for this award may emanate from members of FCIHR, from volunteer Health Agencies, from CIHR Institute Scientific Directors, from Chairs of Institute Advisory Boards, or from health researchers. An appointed Awards Committee of the Board of Directors evaluates nominations. Final approval of the Committee selection rests with the Board.
THE FRIENDS OF CIHR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
This Award is presented in recognition of exceptional contribution by a Member to the advancement of the FCIHR mission and goals.
The Award
The Distinguished Service Award is in the form of a plaque bearing a citation. The Honour is bestowed at a suitable event on the FCIHR calendar, which may take place at a public venue.

Nomination
Nominations are submitted from within the membership. The Awardee is selected by an ad-hoc Awards Committee appointed by the Board of Directors. Final approval of the Committee selection rests with the Board.
