Morin appointed to Senate
Dr. Yves Morin, a CIHR Governing Council Member,
internationally renowned researcher and current
vice-chair of the Science Advisory Board for the Health Protection
Branch of Health Canada, has just been appointed to the
Senate by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien
March 8, 2001 Ottawa, Ontario Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that Her Excellency the Governor General has agreed to summon Dr. Yves Morin of Quebec, Elizabeth (Libbe) Hubley of Prince Edward Island and James Tunney of Ontario to the Senate. He earned a B.A. and a M.D. - both Magna Cum Laude - from Laval University. And he did his clinical training in internal medicine and cardiology in Toronto, London and Paris. During his outstanding career, Dr. Morin has published more than 300 scientific articles and has filled numerous distinguished posts. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University; Director of the Institut de Cardiologie de Québec; Chief of Cardiology at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec; President of the Conseil de recherches médicales du Québec; and, Vice President of the Medical Research Council of Canada. Dr. Morin is currently Vice President of the Science Advisory Board of Health Canada and a Member of the Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Morin was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1991 and an Officer of the National Order of Québec in 1995. In 1997, he was made a Chevalier, Ordre National du Mérite (France). Dr. Morin has been married to Marie Sénécal for more than 40 years. They have raised four children and have six grandchildren. He is 71 years of age. |
